I have a lot of vivid Ultraman memories all throughout my life.
It’s something my brothers and I used to bond over, watching Ultraman Ace in the Philippines.
In grade school, I found my favorite Ultraman in Tiga.
These days, I’ve been keeping up with the new Ultra series, and having a blast.
But the memory I wanna talk about is from when Ultraman Ginga S The Movie was screened here. That was the first time I ever saw Ultraman on the big screen. I didn’t plan on watching it because I haven’t been watching Ultraman during that time.
I only watched because it was announced that kids will get a chance to take a picture with Ultraman. I was already an adult by then, but I really just wanted to see Ultraman in real life, even just once. And the glimpse of him with all the kids lined up in front of the theater entrance was more than enough for me. I headed for the theater and watched the movie, believing that that was gonna be my Ultraman experience.
Until I exited the theater.
Greeting the exiting audience after watching the movie was none other than Ultraman Ginga. One by one, the audience took turns taking photos with Ultraman. I thought only kids were gonna take photos with him, so I was ecstatic and shaking from excitement.
This might also be the only chance I have to take a picture with Ultraman. So, needless to say, I did not throw away my Wide Zero Shot. I wordlessly, and nervously, handed the very helpful staff my phone, shook Ginga’s hand, and posed the best Ultraman Tiga fighting pose my body could muster underneath all my nervousness.
And there is my first ever picture with Ultraman.
I bowed to gesture thanks to the staff, and of course, to Ginga.
The happiest part of my day.
And a happy memory that will stay with me for as long as I live.

私の人生には、ウルトラマンにまつわる鮮明な思い出がたくさんあります。
フィリピンで『ウルトラマンエース』を観て、兄弟と絆を深めたのも、この思い出です。
小学生の頃、一番好きなウルトラマンは『ティガ』でした。
最近は新作ウルトラシリーズを観ていて、とても楽しんでいます。
でも、今回お話ししたいのは、『ウルトラマンギンガS THE MOVIE』が日本で上映された時の思い出です。初めて大きなスクリーンでウルトラマンを見たのはその時でした。当時はウルトラマンを観ていなかったので、観る予定もありませんでした。
子供たちがウルトラマンと写真を撮れる機会があるとアナウンスされていたので、観に行きました。当時私は既に大人でしたが、一度でいいから生のウルトラマンを見てみたいと思っていました。劇場の入り口に並ぶ子供たちと一緒にウルトラマンを一目見るだけで、もう十分すぎるほどでした。劇場へ向かい、映画を観ました。これが私のウルトラマン体験になると信じて。
劇場を出るまでは。
映画を観終えて出てくる観客を出迎えたのは、なんとウルトラマンギンガでした。観客は次々とウルトラマンと写真を撮っていきました。彼と写真を撮るのは子供だけだと思っていたので、私は興奮で震えていました。
ウルトラマンと写真を撮れるのはこれが最後かもしれない。だから、言うまでもなく、ワイドゼロショットは捨てませんでした。私は何も言わず、緊張しながらも、親切なスタッフにスマホを渡し、ギンガと握手し、緊張の中、精一杯のウルトラマンティガのファイティングポーズを決めました。
そして、これが私にとって初めてのウルトラマンとの撮影です。
スタッフの方々、そしてもちろんギンガにも感謝の気持ちを込めてお辞儀をしました。
今日一番幸せな瞬間でした。
そして、この幸せな思い出は、私の心に永遠に残り続けるでしょう。
